A symposium was held for the development of Korean military-medical development on September 26th at Seoul National University Hospital.

The Seoul National University Hospital and the ROK Armed Forces Medical Command have joined their hands to march towards the development of South Korean military medical care.

Seoul National University Hospital and ROK Armed Forces Medical Command held a symposium on “The direction of Korean military medical development through the aspect of US military medical system” on September 26, 2019, at Seoul National University Hospital.

There has been a steady demand for improvements in the military medical environment, which is relatively poor compared to private medical institutions. The symposium was held to discuss the direction of military medical development and raise public awareness of military medical care. Recently, the Ministry of Defense has announced that it will improve the military medical system suitable enough to satisfy the public demand by launching the '2020 ~ 2024 Defense Medium-Term Plan'. This implements soldiers' group loss insurance and simplifies the procedure for approval of private hospitals.

The Symposium was attended by many renowned guests including Vice-President Seung-yong Chung of medical treatment at the Seoul National University Hospital, Commander Seok-woong of the Medical Command, Chairman Ahn Gyu-ba of National Defense Commission and Former President Yoo Geun-young of the National Cancer Center.

Vice-President Seung-yong Chung said, “The military health care is something that everyone who is engaged in the medical community should consider.”

“I hope today’s discussion becomes a trigger to what will continue for the development and improvement of the military medical system”, he added.
