2017 Ho Chi Min City-Gyeongju World Culture Expo has various interesting programs

Chairman Kim Kwan-yong of the Organization Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City-Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2017, concurrently governor of the Gyeongsangnam-do Province, hosted a meeting of the Central Advisory Committee of the Opinion Leaders of the Expo at the Press Center in Seoul on Nov. 2, 2016.

Attending the meeting, among other dignitaries, besides Governor Kim, were Mayor Choi Yang-sik of the Gyeongju City, President Kim Dong-ho of the Busan International Film Festival, former National Assembly Speaker Kim Hyong-oh, Hanbok Designer Ms. Lee Young-hee, Publisher-Chairman Lee Kyung-sik of The Korea Post media and some 20 other noted civic figures of Korea.

The Advisory Committee was formed with leading members of Korean society covering various segments of Korean society, including culture, arts, tourism, history, economy, politics, mass communications media, and academic circles.

The meeting heard reports on the progress of preparations so far made for the 2017 Ho Chi Min City-Gyeongju World Culture Expo various opinions of the members concerning the 2017 Gyeongju Culture Expo.

Speaking to the meeting, Governor Kim said, “This meeting is held to secure the opinions of the members of the Advisory Committee which are very import in view of the fact that the 2017 Ho Chi Min City-Gyeongju Culture Expo takes place coinciding with such important international events as the APEC meeting in Da Nang next year and I would like to solicit opinions from the advisors.”

Then he said, “Korea and Vietnam are close to each other especially in the economic and cultural spheres and I would say the Expo would surely contribute to further upgrading the close ties of cooperation and friendship between Korea and Vietnam—hopefully ushering in a New Era of Korean-Vietnamese Cooperation.”

“Last September,” reported Governor Kim, “chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam visited our province and pledged his full support and assistance for the successful hosting of the 2017 Korean-Vietnamese cultural expo.”

Governor Kim’s address was followed by one by Mayor Choi Yang-sik of the Gyeongju City. He said, “Vietnam is the pivotal country in the world-wide spread of Hallyu (Korean Cultural Wave) as well as an ‘in-law’ country of Korea in view of the fact that now we have a total of 50,000 members of the Korean-Vietnamese married families.”

Then he said, “We have a total of over 4,000 Korean business companies actively engaged in the promotion of economic cooperation between Korea and Vietnam and I would like to solicit the fullest possible extent of support and assistance from all the members of the Advisory Committee so that the Korean-Vietnamese cultural expo would prove a truly successful economic-business expo with the participation of all the Korean companies in Vietnam.”

Members of the Advisory Committee then saw public relations videos on the Ho Chi Minh City-Gyeongju Culture Expo 2017 and heard the progress report made by Secretary General Lee Dong-woo on the progress of preparations for the Expo.

Lee said, “The Expo is a culture expo promoted based on the unique traditional Korean culture of one thousand years seeking harmonious fusion with the different cultures of the world.” Then he introduced an interesting program of 2017, which included opening ceremony in front of the Ho Chi Minh City in November and various cultural performances covering a span of 25 days at the representative tourist destinations such as the Unification Palace, Independence Memorial Park and Opera House.

Then there was exchange of a wide range of opinions expressed by the members of the Advisory Committee for the successful hosting of the 2017 Korean-Vietnamese culture expo. Then the members of the Committee pledged their unreserved support and assistance to carry the 2017 Ho Chi Minh City-Gyeongju Cultural Expo to true success.
