For the benefit of children of less privileged families

SK E&C, a leading engineering and construction company in infrastructure, commercial/ residential building and plant areas, recently held a charity race of sharing happiness for youths in low-income families together with the Hope Maker as part of the Joong-Ang Seoul International Marathon game.

The Hope Maker is a part of SK E&C’s corporate social responsibility activities that supports low-income families and conducts various other philanthropic activities using funds donated by executive members and employees of the company.

The charity race of sharing happiness is an event of donating funds when members of the marathon club and employees of the company run the full marathon course of 42.195 kilometers attaching list of executives and employees who pledged to donate on their back.

Runners join a benefit marathon race for the needy children. Dubbed, "Charity Race of Sharing Happiness for Youths in Low-income Families", the event was participated in not only by Koreans but also by expatriates in Seoul.

SK E&C’s charity race has been continued for 11 years since 2006 when the Seoul International Marathon game was launched. Total amount of donation exceeded 200 million won (approx. US$171,400) in accumulation. The fund was used mainly for living expenses of low-income and multi-cultural families, support for school uniforms of their children, and projects of planting trees.

The amount of a donation account is 5,000 won, and executives and employees at the company can donate up to 20 accounts or 100,000 won per person via the in-house intranet. The Joong-Ang Seoul International Marathon game this year was taken part by 13 members of the marathon club and other employees at the company, and they were supported by over 650 executives and employees of SK E&C by donating a total of more than 11 million won (approx. US$9,400). All of this fund will be used for activities of the Hope Maker and for supporting youths in low-income families.

“I am happy to have taken part in the Happy Race and helped employees who need support and less privileged people,” said Oh Se-geun, head of SK E&C’s marathon club and department manager. “We will continuously carry out the Happy Race in the future.”

Since 2011, SK E&C has been conducting social contribution activities of supporting living and educational expenses for 650 children and youths in low-income families across the country including 7 districts in Seoul. Funds raised through donation by executives and employees combined with matching grants in identical amount had been used for improving residential environments, emergency support and irregular support activities for less privileged families in addition to support for youths.

With internationally recognized technology and construction capability, SK E&C has positioned as a global top tier city developer and infrastructure builder by successfully building roads, railways, ports, commercial buildings and residential spaces as well as large-scale petrochemical and power plants around the world. For example, the company is currently constructing the Eurasia Undersea Tunnel in Turkey, the world’s first double-deck undersea tunnel.
