The Korea Post notices

There are only 10 days left to the Tour of the Handong Global University, POSCO Museum and Yeongil-dae Pavilion on Thursday 11 June 2015.  Located in Pohang near POSCO, Handong University has incomparably outstanding features clearly telling it apart from other universities in Seoul and other regions, including an unrivalled long list of attractive scholarships and financial support for the Korean and international students. Please visit: /news/view.html?section=162&category=184&no=947

The Korea Post has already forward the Invitation of Soon-Heung Chang of Handong University to Your Excellency and Madam.

In case of our transmission failture, please advise us at 2298-1740/2, 1745/6 or 010-3388-1682 (Korean) or 010-3481-1101 (English), or 5201-1740 (Chairman Lee of The Korea Post). Deluxe KTX is used between Seoul and Pohang.

-------------------------------------------

Handong Global University stands out with many distinguishing features

An unrivaled long string of scholarships, financial assistance

Most of the high school graduates and their parents in Korea tend to insist on winning matriculation ‘at all cost’ at Seoul National University or other ‘prestigious’ universities in Seoul such as Yonsei, Korea, Ewha (for women), Sogang and a number of others.

However, closely examining other universities in Korea, such as those in different localities out of the capital city, one is appalled at the outstanding features of other universities in various localities, which stand out in various aspects.

For further details, please visit: /news/view.html?section=162&category=184&no=947

Today’s humor:

Humor from a generous former Asian ambassador

The weekend scoop!!

The lawyer says to the wealthy art collector tycoon: “I have some good news and, I have some bad news….”

The tycoon replies: “I’ve had an awful day, let’s hear the good news first?

The lawyer says: “Well your wife invested $5,000 in two pictures this week that she figures they are worth a minimum of $2 to $3 million.”

The tycoon replies enthusiastically: “Well done…very good news indeed!

You’ve just made my day; now what’s the bad news?”

The lawyer answers: “The pictures are of you with your secretary.”

School joke

If I had five coconuts and I gave you three, how many would I have left?

I don't know.

Why not?

In our school we do all our arithmetic in apples and oranges.

Seoul Kyungje

An efficiency expert concluded his lecture with a note of caution. "You need to be careful about trying these techniques at home. I watched my wife's routine at dinner for years," the expert explained. "She made lots of trips between the refrigerator, stove, table, carrying a single item at a time.”

One day I told her, 'Honey, why don't you try carrying several things at once?'"

"Did it save time?" The guy in the audience asked.

"Actually, yes," replied the expert. "It used to take her 30 minutes to make dinner. Now I do it in ten…."

Computer Dating

After his divorce the man turned to a computer dating service, which provided him with names and phone numbers of women whose profiles seemed a good match for him.

Nervously, he picked up the phone and called the first woman on the list. The woman was quite pleasant, so he mustered the courage to ask her out.

“I’m sorry,” she replied, “but I just can’t do that.”

Stunned, he asked, “Do you mind my asking why not?”

“Because I’m your wife’s divorce attorney.”

Evidence of a cover-up in case of anthrax sample at US military base in S. Korea

USFK claiming that anthrax test was the first, but anthrax testing in S. Korea has been going on for 17 years

US Forces Korea (USFK) tried to restore calm by claiming that the anthrax experiment connected with the accidental delivery of live anthrax was taking place “for the first time.” But with evidence surfacing that US forces have been operating an anthrax laboratory in South Korea for more than 17 years, there is criticism that the US was trying to sweep the incident under the rug.

Case of live anthrax on US military base raises questions of revising Status of Forces Agreement

After live anthrax was mistakenly delivered to the Osan Air Force Base, which is operated by US Forces Korea (USFK), there is increasing pressure to revise the US-South Korea Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), which currently allows the US to bring hazardous materials into South Korea without notifying the South Korean government. .

S. Korea, US and Japan to hold trilateral defense talks at Shangri-La Dialogue

South Korea, the US, and Japan are organizing working-level discussions to review and prevent possible infringement of the Korean Peninsula’s sovereignty by the Japan Self-Defense Forces’ (JSDF) exercise of collective self-defense, sources said. Meanwhile, the issue of anthrax testing by USFK is slated for emergency discussion at talks scheduled for May 30 between the South Korean and US defense ministers. .

Smoke at Kori reactor the latest case of danger at a nuclear plant

Three incidents of fires and smoke at Kori Nuclear Power Plant in Busan over the past seven months are stirring up longstanding fears over nuclear power. The latest episode occurred at around 7:54 pm on May 28, when 25 fire trucks from the Busan Metropolitan City Fire Safety Headquarters were sent in after smoke was discovered in the third-floor air compressor room in the turbine building for Reactor 2.The trucks immediately returned to their base after the smoke was found to have been controlled by the plant’s own firefighting personnel, who had been first to discover it. .

Activists still dreaming of a 10,000 minimum wage

Could Kwon Moon-seok’s dream of a 10,000-won minimum wage become a reality? The organization Minimum Wage Solidarity staged a concert and signature campaign in front of U-Plex Plaza at Hyundai Department Store in Seoul’s Sinchon neighborhood on May 29 to demand the minimum wage be raised to 10,000 won (US$8.98). The association is made up of 32 groups and political parties, including the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), Part Time Workers’ Union, People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD), and the Justice Party. .

Study: S. Korean kids learning too much math too early

Elementary and middle school students in South Korea have to learn more math in less time than their counterparts in Europe, the US, and Japan, a study found. In addition, South Korean students are generally taught the same content at an earlier age than student in those other countries. The study identifies this as the fundamental reason that math education degenerates into rote memorization and problem solving, even though conceptual understanding is a crucial part of the subject. The study is likely to give momentum to the argument that a major reduction of math education in elementary, middle, and high school is necessary in order to decrease the number of students who give up on math altogether.
