The Korea Post notice:

Introduce the traditional food and beverage of your country to the world as well as to Korea at Namyangy Slow Life Festival Oct. 8-17, 2015

(Please share the information with Madam.)

The Korea Post is supporting the 2015 Namyangju Slow Life Planet Festival on October 8-17, 2015, and publishes a Special Report on the Traditional Dishes of all the different countries of the world in its August, September and October issues this year in all its five media units, three in English and two in the Korean language. It consists of introducing:

1. The table-setting of each of the 60 different countries

2. The world food show

3. Invitation of the ambassadors and madams to the opening ceremony on October 8, 2015.

In Korea, the table normally consists of a bowl of rice, a bowl of guk (watery soup), a bowl of Jjigae (stew), a dish of roast fish, a dish of Namul (seasonal greens) and a number of other dishes (small pancakes, steamed eggs, fried bean curds, jelly, etc.). The number of bowls and dishes differ depending on the financial status of the family and on the different occasions.

On such festive occasions as Seollal (Lunar New Year’s Day) and Chuseok (Autumn Full Moon Festival), the number of foods and variety are much larger than at normal time, and each has a specific food item that must not be left out, eg., Ddeokguk (rice cake soup) on the New Year’s Day and Songpyeon (stuffed small rice cake in a half-moon shape.

/news/view.html?smode=&skey=Culture&x=19&y=13&section=162&category=182&no=985

Today’s humor:

Hankuk Kyungje

Big Surprise

A third-grade teacher assigned the children to write a story titled “My Biggest Surprise.”

Not until the end of the school year did the parents of a girl see their daughter’s work. It read: “I got up this morning and I ran into my mom and dad’s bed room and hopped in. But it wasn’t mom at all - it was our neighbor Mrs. Baker!”

What her essay failed to say was that Mrs. Baker was called in late at night to stay with the children while her mom was taken to the hospital to have her fourth child.

After previously blasting allegations that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) monitored civilians as “risking our own security,” the agency and ruling Saenuri Party (NFP) have leaked security details beneficial to themselves over the past few days. The opposition blasted the party on July 31 as “the real ones hurting security and breaking the law.”Lee Jong-kul, floor leader for the opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD), attacked the Saenuri Party over the leaks

The NIS’s sloppiness shows really why it won’t disclose log files

The National Intelligence Service (NIS) is claiming a “threat to North Korea intelligence capabilities” as its reason for denying opposition and media demands to disclose log files and other information in response to allegations of civilian monitoring with a remote control system (RCS) hacking program. Its argument is that such a disclosure would reveal the nature and capacities of its activities, which are considered a state secret.
