Gyeongju Festival is a 1-night-2-day tour instead of a single-day event

URGENT: Tour of Gyeongjju Silk Road Culture Expo was expanded to one-night-two-day tour from a one day event and the departure time was changed to 0845 hours Friday morning 21 August 2015 from 0730 hours the same day. Accordingly the returning time in Seoul has also been changed to 12:32 hours hours the following day (Saturday 22 August) instead of Friday 21 August.

It is considered good news because the previous time (0730 hours) was too early and also the new schedule allows ample time to tour the famed Yangdong Folk Village.

A new schedule will be emailed to Your Excellency within today and I hope that the changed schedule would meet Your Excellency’s convenience.

HYANGDAN HOUSE IN YANGDONG FOLK VILLAGE IN GYEONGJU?One of the biggest traditional Korean tile-roofed houses of the nobility in the Joseon Dynasty. It is located at the entrance of the Yangdong Folk Village in Gyeongju City. Hyangdan was built in 1543 and was designated as the 412th Treasure on Nov. 14, 1964. Hyangdan was the house of Governor Yi Eon-jeok of the Gyeongsang Province during the Joseon Dynasty. Yi had the house built for his younger brother, Yi Eon-jeok, who looked after his ageing mother in his place because he could devote himself to serving the King. Hyangdan, therefore, stands for good brotherly relations, filial piety for parents and loyalty to the king. Yangdong Village was designated as the 189th Important Folk Relic on Dec. 20, 1984 as an upper class community. Hyangdan is one of the main tourist destinations for the ambassadors and spouses during their visit to Gyeongju on the occasion of the Gyeongju Silk Road Expo on Friday 21, August 2015.

Invitation to Gyeongju Silk Road Culture Expo

I am pleased to inform Your Excellency that Governor Kim Kwan-yong and Mayor Choi Yang-sik of Gyeongju City cordially invite Your Excellency and Madam to a one-night-two-day tour and to attend the Opening Ceremony of the Gyeongju Silk Road Culture Expo on Friday 21 August 2015, which includes a drama on the noted ‘Korean Buddhist Monk Hyecho’s Pilgrimage and Tour of India and the Middle East’ in the 8th Century and a tour of the Gyeongju Museum and Yangdong Korean Folk Village. Now preserved at the Paris National Museum in France, the rare hand-written book by Ven. Hyecho features various strange customs of living, which include ‘Men and women living stark-naked,’ ‘Tribal community where the brothers share one woman,’ ‘Cooking rice in a clay pot’ and ‘Tribes having no sauce but only salt.’

Earlier in May this year, over 60 ambassadors and other senior diplomats attended the prelude event ‘Gyeongju Student Silk Road Festival’ when the drama featured the “Love Story of Silla Princess and Iranian Prince.’ The Main Gyeongsu Silk Road Culture Expo (unlike the prelude student event) has many interesting programs extremely attractive to the Ambassadors and Madams.

As in the case of the previous (student) festival, deluxe KTX Train will be used between Seoul and Gyeongju.

A formal letter of Invitation will be faxed and emailed to Your Excellency today.

Just in case of our possible transmission failure, our contact phone numbers are:

McDonald's

Before taking a family trip to Europe the American father emphasized that they would be soaking in the local culture and enjoying fine local cuisine.

That meant: No fast food! A few weeks into the trip, they were in Australia when they came upon a McDonald’s. The 8-year-old son immediately ran toward it.

“Remember our rule,” the father yelled out. “I’m not going to eat… I just want to smell it.”

One of Korea’s top universities to offer course teaching creationism

One disgruntled student says Yonsei University now may as well offer credit courses in African voodoo practices

Among the people who believed in the literal truth of the Bible, there are those who maintain that the world is around 6,000 years old rather than 4.6 billion years, and that the universe and Earth were created in just six days. Known as “creation science” or “creationism,” this position has been offered as a counterargument to the theory of evolution, chiefly by fundamentalist Protestants in the US and South Korea who claim the infallibility of scripture.

“The sea breathed, a heavy flop of blue, bulky scales deeper than crayon. The Tagore, an Indian boat carrying freed prisoners to a neutral land, shook its three thousand-ton body neatly painted in white, sliding through South China Sea air packed thickly like a mass of objects.”“The Square,” a 1960 novel by Choi In-hun, begins with the image of a boat leaving Incheon Harbor for neutral India after the end of the Korean War. On board is protagonist Lee Myeong-jun, one of many prisoners from the conflict who opted for a third country instead of repatriation. .
