Free exhibition of your unique food products (non-perishable)

Here is a rare opportunity for your country to showcase your unique food and food-related products in Korea free of charge for 10 days in Namyangju City on the eastern outskirts of Seoul. The Embassy does not have to assign any personnel at the exhibition site because the Namyangju City Government manages the exhibition pavilion throughout the 10-day period.

This is a very good chance for the non-perishable food exporters of your country to introduce their goods to the Korean people and international visitors.

The interesting offer comes from the Organizing Committee of

2015 Namyangju Slow Life International (Food) Festival on October 8-17, 2015 in a 10-day run.

Recommended exhibits:

Non-perishable unique foods of your country canned, bottled, vacuum-packed or dehydrated, such as fruits, nuts, spices, condiments, rice, wheat, maze (corn), any other non-perishable food products.

Food-related goods such as traditional tableware items, kitchen utensil, table cloth, aprons, spoons, bowls, dishes, plates, cutting boards, knives, cooking pots, pans, and/or whatever related with cooking and meals.

Namyangju City government officials collect the exhibits after issuing receipts and return them to the suppliers after exhibition. The exhibits can also be displayed on a permanent basis.

Returning from China, Pres. Park says unification is still the “ultimate goal”

Recent trip to China and agreement with Pyongyang have emboldened Park to craft a more assertive foreign policy

President Park Geun-hye called peaceful reunification the “ultimate and fastest approach to resolving” the North Korean nuclear issue on Sept. 4 on the way back from her recent China visit.Park also said she and Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed to “cooperate on the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula.”The remarks came during a talk with Blue House reporters on board Park’s presidential aircraft while returning to Seoul from Shanghai. Park went on to say that “various discussions” with China would begin on “how to achieve peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula in the near future.”

[Interview] Korean expert: the chances of a virtuous cycle for diplomacy in Northeast Asia

Since South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Chinese President Xi Jinping were scheduling their summit and discussing their agenda while tensions on the Korean Peninsula were being eased through the agreement reached during the “two-plus-two” meeting of high-ranking North and South Korean officials, South Korea and China succeeded at broadening their consensus on affairs on the Korean Peninsula, said Lee Hee-ok, professor at the Institute of China Studies at Sungkyunkwan University, during a telephone interview with the Hankyoreh on Sep. 4. Lee added that the question of whether a virtuous cycle can be established in Northeast Asian diplomacy depends on inter-Korean relations. .

[Interview] Chinese expert: Beijing refocusing its Korea policy toward the South

President Park Geun-hye’s attendance at China’s military parade will prompt China to switch the focus of its policy for the Korean peninsula from North Korea to South Korea, said Jin Canrong, 53, associate dean of the School of International Studies at China’s Renmin University, during a telephone interview with the Hankyoreh on Sep. 4. Jin predicted that this won’t lead to a rupture in relations between China and North Korea. .

US government not thrilled with Park’s attendance at Beijing military parade

In contrast with the US State Department’s official response, there is considerable displeasure in Washington about South Korean President Park Geun-hye’s attendance at China’s ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the victory over Japan in World War II. During the daily press briefing on Sep. 3, US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mark C. Toner reconfirmed the US official position that deciding what relations to have with other countries in the region is “a sovereign decision for the Republic of South Korea to make.” The State Department has maintained the position of “respecting” Park’s attendance at China’s military review. .

Divided families don’t want to wait ? seeking permission to visit homes in North Korea

Elderly South Koreans divided from their family members by the Korean War are making an effort to visit their homes in North Korea during this year’s Chuseok harvest festival, which falls at the end of September. Given the instability of inter-Korean relations, they are unwilling to wait on the reunions that the South Korean government is trying to organize. .

[Analysis] After Beijing parade, S. Korea can take the diplomatic lead in East Asia

On the morning of Sep. 3 in Beijing, South Korean President Park Geun-hye stood upon the parapets of Tiananmen - the Gate of Heavenly Peace - which jutted up against a blue autumnal sky. To her left were Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. For 90 minutes, the leader of South Korea stood alongside the leaders of China and Russia - which at one point had been enemy states - and watched a massive parade by the People’s Liberation Army of China.
