Latest poll shows a sharper turn against state-issued history textbooks

The tide of public opinion is swiftly turning against state designation of Korean history textbooks.Support for the measure has been shrinking as scholars, politicians, and civil society have quickly rallied against it in the wake of the Education Ministry’s administrative notice on the upcoming introduction of a designation system on Oct. 12. A major factor in the changing attitudes is a shift toward opposition from greater Seoul area residents and unaffiliated moderates who had previously been lukewarm or undecided on the textbook matter.

Invitation to Korean Folk Religious Rite, Dance Festival

Your Excellency:

I am pleased to inform Your Excellency that Chairperson Lee Eun-sook of the Asian Traditional Seonghwang-gut Research Foundation (ATSRF)  and Director Kim Bong-shik of the Ansan Art Center in Ansan City, cordially invite Your Excellency and Madam to the 9th annual Traditional Korean Folk Religious Rite and Dance Festival on Friday October 23, 2015 at the Ansan Art Center in the Ansan City, some 26 miles southwest of Seoul.

/news/view.html?section=162&category=182&no=1079

The traditional Korean folk religious rite dates back to the Era of Dangun Wamggep, the legendary progenitor and first ruler of the Korean nation 4,348 years ago, and has grown into a very popular traidtional Korean indigenous religious

service with a total of 200,000 practioners, some of whom have been officially designated as the Human Cultural Asset of Korea by the Central Government.  /news/view.html?section=162&category=182&no=1092

Background: Korean people from olden times have been suffering from all kinds of misfortune and hardships and traditional Korean folk religious (shaman) music and dances relieved them of such mental and physical trauma and agonies. The rites were a great source of relief as the Gut rite prayed for good luck and peace for the people and the nation.
Repertoire: Sapura (Village Shrine Exorcism), Bonhyangsan-geori (rite for Home Village Deities), Chunaeng-jeon (Spring Nightingale Rite), Seonghwang-geori (Village Deity Rite), Jeseok-geori (rite for Korean Progenitor King Dangun), Gyobang Sword Dance, Dodang-sori (song), and SinjangDaegam-geori (rite for Zodiac Animal Generals and Excellencies), and finally the main Seonghwang-geori (Local Deity Rite).

Deluxe 28-seat Limousine buses have been reserved for a comfortable trip and a luncheon will be hosted for the guests by the Director of the Ansan Art Center and Chairperson Lee at the Art Center Banquet Hall. Details of the schedule follow:

1000 hours, Friday 23 October 2015: Meet at Grand Hyatt Hotel (water fountain site)1000-1130 hours: Move from Grand Hyatt Seoul to Ansan City by deluxe Limousine buses.

Very Respectfully Yours
