S. Korean consumer sentiment improves in Oct.

Consumer sentiment in South Korea improved in October for the fourth consecutive month, with better outlooks for income and spending, central bank data showed Tuesday.

The consumer sentiment index (CSI) for October came to 105, gaining 2 points from the previous month, according to the data from the Bank of Korea (BOK).

Pentagon used NGO for espionage missions in N. Korea: report

The U.S. Defense Department declined comment Monday on a news report that it had secretly funded a nongovernmental aid group to carry out espionage missions in North Korea in the name of humanitarian assistance.

On the afternoon of Oct. 24, during the first day of the second round of reunions at Mt. Keumkang for families divided by the Korean War, the South Korean navy fired five warning shots from an onboard gun when a North Korean fishing patrol ship reportedly crossed the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the waters to the east of Yeonpyeong Island in the West (Yellow) Sea. This did not come to light until a day after the fact.
