Park holds first bilateral talks with Abe

President Park Geun-hye began crucial talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday that could set the tone for bilateral relations in the coming years.

The talks -- the first between leaders of the two neighbors in more than three years -- came as Park hosted a trilateral summit with Abe and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Sunday.

Almost 400 professors sign statement opposing state history textbooks

Around 380 Seoul National University professors signed a recent statement opposing state issuance of history textbooks.The statement, which was released on Oct. 28, included signatures from 372 professors at 23 universities, representing not only the humanities, social sciences, and education but also engineering, medicine, and agriculture and life sciences. Also on the list were ten professors emeriti, including former National Institute of Korean History directors Lee Tae-jin and Jung Ok-ja and inaugural Northeast Asian History Foundation chairperson Kim Yong-duk. .

[Analysis] Upcoming S. Korea-Japan summit…any progress?

For President Park Geun-hye, the summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Nov. 2 must feel a little like eating crow. With Abe showing no signs of yielding on the issue of the so-called comfort women, who served as sex slaves for the imperial Japanese army - the most divisive issue in South Korea’s relations with Japan - Park finds herself with no choice but to hold a summit. .
