People of Uzbekistan vote for the country’s future

President-elect Shavkat Mirziyoev wins with 87.73% support of voters

The Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan announced the preliminary results of the Presidential elections on Dec. 4, 2016. A total of 88.61 percent of the total number of voters voted for the candidate for the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from the Liberal Democratic Party – Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev, for the candidate from the Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish” Sarvar Otamuratov – 2.35 percent, for the candidate from the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Hotamjon Ketmonov – 3.73 percent, and for the candidate from the Social Democratic Party “Adolat” Narimon Umarov – 3.46 percent of voters.

A total of 88,61 percent of the total number of voters voted for the candidate for the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from the Liberal Democratic Party – Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev, for the candidate from the Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish” Sarvar Otamuratov – 2,35 percent, for the candidate from the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Hotamjon Ketmonov – 3,73 percent, and for the candidate from the Social Democratic Party “Adolat” Narimon Umarov – 3,46 percent of voters.

The old and young and men and women vote in the Presidential elections on Dec. 4. They chose Candidate Shavkat Mirziyoev as their new President.

The voting was attended by 17 million 951 thousand 667 citizens, which is 87.73 percent of the total number of voters included in the lists. In accordance with the Article 35 of the Law “On elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, this indicates that the country’s presidential elections are held.

According to observers of international organizations, foreign countries, elections in Uzbekistan were held openly and transparently, in full accordance with provisions and norms provided by the national legislation and on the basis of democratic principles.

In accordance with the decision of the Central Election Commission, Presidential candidates efficiently used the opportunity provided for the election campaign. Taking into account proposals of political parties each candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in order to bring for voters of the basic provisions of their pre-election programs on television and radio channels of the National TV and Radio Company of Uzbekistan “Uzbekistan” and “Yoshlar” were provided free of charge 638 minutes, on 12 local TV and radio channels of the National TV and Radio Company of Uzbekistan – 206 minutes, on TV and radio channel “Toshkent” – 286 minutes of airtime. In the newspapers “Khalk suzi”, “Narodnoe slovo” (“People’s word”) and “Pravda vostoka” (“Truth of the East”) by 6 pages, in the newspapers “Ovozi tojik” and “Nurly djol” – 5 pages, as well as in 30 local newspapers in general – 55,5 pages of print space. In the regions of the country each candidate has been allocated a total of 642 means of outdoor advertising, special constructions, screens, billboards, as well as provided opportunity to use 36 electronic monitors of the Republic for free placement of campaign commercials.

All conditions have been created in order to directly familiarize voters with the pre-election programs, biographies of candidates through the mass media and in meetings of candidates with voters. In all electoral districts, meetings of candidates for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and their authorized representatives with voters were held.

Based on the principles of equality and justice, the district election commissions created equal conditions and opportunities for organization at places of meetings of candidates with voters, prevalence of campaigning for a particular candidate is not allowed. Central Election Commission is monitoring the process. As a result of such large-scale work, voters were able to get familiar with provisions and objectives set forth in their pre-election programs.

Central Election Commission at all stages and activities of the election campaign on Presidential election of the Republic of Uzbekistan paid special attention to ensuring openness and transparency. In this respect, all conditions have been created for local and foreign mass media. Republican press center was established under the CEC for coverage of the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and regional press centers at the district election commissions.

About 600 observers observed the process of preparation and conduction of elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including representatives of five international organizations – the mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the World Association of Electoral Bodies, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as from countries of Asia, America, Europe.

In addition, more than 37 thousand representatives of four political parties to observe the voting process and counting of votes. Electoral commissions created all necessary conditions for their fruitful activities.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission noted that the information from places about any violations of the election legislation have been not reported.

At the Republican press center on covering elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan election headquarters for the organization and conduction of elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan DP “Milliy Tiklanish”, People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and the Social Democratic Party “Adolat” held briefings at which summed up the results of its participation in the election campaign.

At the briefing of DP “Milliy Tiklanish”, a speech was made by a candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sarvar Otamuratov. He particularly noted that in the process of preparation and conduction of elections equal conditions were created for all candidates. Conduction of pre-election campaign on the principles of equality and fairness, openness and transparency was fully secured.

S. Otamuratov expressed deep appreciation to authorized representatives, members and supporters of the party, all voters who supported the candidate in the elections, and congratulated Shavkat Mirziyoev with a brilliant victory in the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2016.

At the briefing of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, a speech was made by a candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Khotamjon Ketmonov. He confirmed that at all stages of the election campaign, the principle of equal opportunities for political parties and candidates nominated by them was strictly adhered.

At the briefing of the SDP “Adolat”, a speech was made by a candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Narimon Umarov, he summed up the results of participation of the party in the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Officers of the Election Management Committee are checking to see how the Committee personnel are working.

Information provided by political parties on the results of presidential elections was yet another confirmation that the election campaign in Uzbekistan has been conducted on the basis of fair and open political struggle, respect of political views and opinions of opponents.

Currently, the CEC is considering protocols and other documents provided by the district election commissions. In accordance with the Law “On the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan” all of them, if necessary – and materials of individual precinct election commissions will again be thoroughly checked by the CEC. Only after that the Central Election Commission will take a decision on the results of the election.

In accordance with the national election legislation, report on the results of Presidential elections in Republic of Uzbekistan will be published by the Central Election Commission in the press no later than 10 days after the election.

It should be noted that the Presidential elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan that was held on December 4 is important in future prosperity of Uzbekistan, enhancing its credibility in the international arena, a sequential increase in the level and quality of life of the population. They have once again demonstrated Uzbekistan people’s commitment to the chosen path on achieving its lofty goals.
