Amb. Lippert suddently cancels a meeting with Korean porters

Ambassador Mark Lippert might stay on in Seoul for the time being as United States ambassador to Korea.
This speculation was reported by Korean language dailies this morning.
This came in the wake of cancellation by the US Embassy in Seoul of a scheduled meeting between Ambwassador Lippert and Korean reporters at the US Embassy at in Seoul 11 a.m. yesterday.
Mass-circulated Korean-language daily Dong-A Ilbo reported this morning that the US Embassy in Seoul announced an ‘urgent cancellation’ of a meeting scheduled between Amb. Lippert and Korean reporters.
On this development, informed Korean diplomatic sources said, “We have learned that the US Embassy has received an urgent message from Washington asking Amb. Lippert to stay on in Korea until further notice.”

Amb. Lippert is known to be one of the closest associates of President Barack Obama of the United States who stayed with Obama since election campaign in 2008.
When Ambassador Lippert was attacked by a Korean subverssive in Seoul on March 5, 2015, President Obama is known to have sent him a ‘consolation’ call right way.
Ambassador Lippert makes a striking contrast with all his predecessors in that he ‘mingles’ with Korean grass-roots, especiall the ‘real Koreans’ in the countryside in spite of the personal assault suffered at the Sejong Cultural Hall in 2015.
He is also considered one of the most pro-Korean US ambassadors for various reasons, including his giving his Korean-born son a Korean name, Sejun in addition to his American name, James William.
In spite of the personal assaunt, Amb. Lippert has been very active trying to ‘be around’ at all meetings at all times, including diplomatic functions and local government and civic events throughout the country.
If President-elect Donal Trump decided to keep Lippert, many Koreans say “Well, of all the things he has done (right or wrong depending on the different peoples), he is doing one thing right—at least for Korea and the US.”
