Chairman Lee Jun-seok of the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) said that the front-running Presidential Candidate Yoon Seok-youl (former prosecutor general) would board the PPP band wagon for the Presidential race “when he thinks the time is right” so that he can win the Presidential election. The election is slated on March 9 next year.
Lee was recently quoted by a Korean-language daily, Dong-A Ilbo, as saying, “I discussed the matter with Mr. Yoon for about an hour and I thought it was common sense that Mr. Yoon will join the competition in our party where our final candidate will be chosen.”

Earlier on June 6, Lee had a person-to-person meeting with Yoon at an unidentified location in the Gangnam District south of the Han River in Seoul
In an interview with CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show' on July 9, Chairman Lee of the PPP said that he did not discuss politics with Youn such as his future ideas but that he mainly asked what and how Youn has been doing with regard to his plans for the future..
Then he said, "Mr. Yoon, too, had many things to ask me about the PPP’s internal circumstances and situation and various other matters related with politics.”

Asked if Youn would board the band wagon of the PPP Presidential campaign, Lee said, “Well, it is something which I thought I would rather not ask at the meeting.” He said, “I just tell you this. Judging from common sense, I think that Mr. Youn will naturally join us.”
Regarding former Chairman Kim Jong-in of the PPP Election Management Committee, Lee said, “We need the help of a very excellent leader and I think that Mr. Kim could wonderfully perform that role.”
