The Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ICCK), on behalf of the Embassy of India in Seoul, hosted a forum at the Millennium Seoul Hilton on Jan. 19, 2017 on Investment Opportunities in Telangana State of India.

Attending for the forum were an estimated total of over government, business and other representatives, who included Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami of India, Secretary General Yoon Sock-joong of the ICCK, Chairman Kim In Pil Sungpoong Construction Co. and Vice Chairman Choe Nam-suk of The Korea Post media.

The main purposes of this roadshow were to (1) present the advantages of doing business & investing in Telangana, (2) facilitate dialogue between Korean investors and Telangana business delegation, (3) promote future investment projects with the support of the government of Telangana and (4) to identify specific actions for follow up.

At the meeting, an opening address was presented by ICCK Secretary General Soekjoong Yoon, welcome remarks were made by Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami of India in Seoul and an address was made also by Minister for IT, Industries, Municipal Administration and NRI Affairs KT Rama Rao of the Government of Telangana.

The Telangana State has many attractive investment opportunities and for Korean businesses. Having a total population of 35 million people and a land area of 44,340 square kilometers, Telangana has an annual economic growth rate of 16.53% (GSDP estimated at US$72 billion) and a per capita income of US$1,984.

The primary industries are IT (information technology), bio engineering, textile and aviation.

Geographically, Telangana is the gateway to Northern India, has a total road length of 24,245 kilometers, including 16 national highways with a total of length of 2,592 kilometers.

It also has airports linked with major cities in India and around the world.

The Telangana State is also rich in natural resources, including minerals.

The State has a number of firsts, which include: The ‘Most Promising State in India,’ the ‘Most Business-friendly City,’ ‘an IT hub with more than 1,200 IT companies,’ and ‘excellent university education facilities.’
