Pernod Ricard Korea is hosting a second online Gugak performance to celebrate its ‘2020 exemplary institution supporting culture and arts’ certification by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
Pernod Ricard Korea has sponsored a total of 587 talented students of Gugak, or Korean traditional music, through its ‘Pernod Ricard Korea Gugak Scholarship Program’ in collaboration with the National Gugak Schools since 2002

Pernod Ricard Korea, the Korean unit of the global wine and spirits company Pernod Ricard, is hosting a second online Gugak(Korean traditional music) performance together with the National Gugak High School on December 1, 2021 to celebrate its certification as ‘an excellent organization for supporting culture and arts’ by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism last year.

Pernod Ricard Korea has been operating its ‘Pernod Ricard Korea Gugak Scholarship Program’ for almost 20 years since it was launched in 2002. In recognition of this contribution, it was certified as an excellent organization for supporting culture and arts in 2020 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

A post-assessment is made every year of the activities performed by a certified excellent organization for supporting culture and arts. Pernod Ricard Korea passed this year’s assessment and maintained its certification.

Under the scholarship program, Pernod Ricard Korea provides scholarships to students with good grades at the National Gugak Schools every year. Pernod Ricard Korea has offered a total of 587 students approximately 2.4 billion won in scholarships, boosting the foundation for the development of Gugak and actively nurturing talented Gugak performers.

The performance will include a range of programs performed by about 80 first- and second-year students at the National Gugak High School, including Piri solos, gayageum trios, and creative chamber music by students majoring in composition, folk song medleys, creative vocal music, creative dance, and Gugak orchestras. These students have experienced fewer chances to perform due to the pandemic, but can now have an opportunity to appear on stage and create positive memories while the public can directly experience the charms of traditional Korean music.

Ryoo Hwajoo, HR & Corporate Affairs Director at Pernod Ricard Korea, noted, “We are pleased that we have had this chance to support the development of traditional Korean culture for many years now and feel honored by the certification from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.” She added, “We will continue to make efforts to ensure that our sponsorship activities can fuel the growth of traditional Korean culture.”

Acting Principal Ham Yujung of the National Gugak High School stated, “Thanks to the long-term support from Pernod Ricard Korea, winning a Pernod Ricard Korea Gugak scholarship is considered a great honor not just for the school but for the students.” And added, “We will continue to endeavor to help our students grow into important members of Gugak community in the future who can promote Korean culture to the world.”

Meanwhile, the pre-recorded performances conducted at Ureuk Hall at the National Gugak Schools on November 11 will be available on the homepages of Pernod Ricard Korea and the National Gugak High School as well as the school’s official YouTube channel from December 1.
