To reduce carbon emission and utilize renewable energy

BAT Korea Manufacturing held an ESG Cooperation MOU signing ceremony with Gyeongsang National University (GNU)’s Research Institute Future Applied Technology on Jan. 6, 2022 at BAT Sacheon Factory.

Kim Ji-hyeong, head of manufacturing at BAT Sacheon Plant, Professor Chang Hae-nam and Professor Kim Hae-ji of GNU’s Research Institute took part in the MOU signing ceremony. During the ceremony, they set the common target for carbon emission reduction and promised mutual cooperation.

Through the collaboration with the University’s Research Institute, BAT Sacheon Factory will build a system to promote technology and local talent exchanges as well as leveraging the system to expand its ESG investment, specifically in the environmental area.

With the signing of the MOU, the Research Institute of GNU will commence research to identify technologies to reduce BAT Sacheon Factory’s carbon emission. The signing parties plan to carry out the research on technological solutions to reduce carbon emission to achieve the net zero target and ways to utilize renewable energy.

Kim Ji-hyeong, head of manufacturing at BAT Sacheon Factory said, “BAT Sacheon Factory has been implementing the environmental business operation through pro-active investments in the installation of the solar energy generation facility, management for the International Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS), and etc. We plan to actively cooperate with GNU to ensure that this industry and academia cooperation make actual progress in the area of environment and nurturing of talent as well as for the plant to achieve its carbon emission reduction target.”
