Names of people, who devoted their lives to serving for the course of happiness and prosperity of their motherland, forever remain in people's memory.
First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov was such a historical figure, who had been highly regarded by the people of Uzbekistan and forever remained in their hearts.
Currently all regions of Uzbekistan are preparing for the birth day of the founder of Uzbekistan independence – January 30.
The First President has developed basic philosophy of the national revival of Uzbekistan such as political sovereignty and economic independence, openness to the world and preservation of national identity, high spirituality and respect for the own history, religious and cultural tolerance. A principle of “there is no future without historical memory”, proclaimed by Islam Karimov at the outset of independence, had become an important guidance to reforming the spiritual life, educating culture of historical remembrance and creative aspirations of Uzbekistan people.
In his speech at the opening address at the International Conference “Historical heritage of scientists and thinkers of the medieval East, its role and importance for the modern civilization” the First President of Uzbekistan recalled words of Great Spanish writer Cervantes that history is a treasure of our deeds, witness of the past, paradigm and lesson for the present, an admonition for the future.
Islam Karimov played a fundamental role in the development of Uzbekistan on the path of independence, avoiding bloodshed of barricade revolutions and civil war. Under his leadership, in a short time Uzbekistan had developed its own, unique path of development and state-building. Basic foundations of social, political and institutional reforms included in the five principles of building an independent democratic state, now widely recognized as the “Uzbek model”, had become primarily the revival of the spiritual health of multinational people of Uzbekistan. Strategic issues on reconstruction, preservation, restoration of Uzbekistan rich historical, scientific and cultural heritage had been identified.

Rich historical heritage of the Uzbek people, humanistic ideas of great thinkers of classical antiquity and the Medieval East, world discoveries of Al-Khwarizmi, al-Beruni, Avicenna, Ulugbek and other encyclopedic scientists of East Renaissance period, philosophy of ideal society and a just ruler Al-Farabi, the principles of the state-building of Amir Temur, philosophical and moral beliefs of Alisher Navoi were adopted as conceptual guidance for the ideological and moral content of ideology of independence.
The experience and achievements of Uzbekistan in the field of extended practical activities on preserving historical heritage and national values received deserved recognition of the international community, serve to further enhancing high credibility of Uzbekistan. A vivid proof to it – recognition of Tashkent by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) as a capital of the World of Islamic Culture in 2007, inclusion of historic centers of cities of Bukhara, Samarkand, Khiva, Shakhrisabz in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Cultural region of Boysun, as well as Navruz, shashmakom, katta ashula, askia and traditions of cooking pilaff are included into the representative list of masterpieces of world intangible culture. Under the auspices of this largest international organization, a traditional International music festival “Sharq taronalari” is being held.

Thanks to the depth of philosophical thinking and political sagacity of Islam Karimov we have managed not only to restore the national identity, strengthen the national consciousness, educate high spirituality, but also consolidate compatriots for creative work to further advance prosperity of the country. As acknowledged by the world community, the very fact should be treated as the most outstanding achievements of independent Uzbekistan and life-affirming philosophy of national revival, to what the great son of the Uzbek people, Islam Karimov, devoted his life.
Islam Karimov will forever remain in the history of Uzbekistan as the founder of the independent state, an outstanding statesman and political figure, who worked out the country’s development strategy on a modern basis that gain international recognition. The people of Uzbekistan associate all success achieved in a historically short period of time – 25 years, with the name of the First President.
