Ahn Cheol-soo sees his approval rating down 2% points to 11%

In a survey of the approval ratings of Presidential candidates conducted by Gallup Korea announced on Feb. 18, Yoon Suk-yeol, the Presidential candidate of the opposition People Power Party, led his counterpart Lee Jae-myung of the ruling Democratic Party outside the margin of error.

Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating topped 41%, followed by Lee Jae-myung with 34%, Ahn Cheol-soo of the People Party with 11% and Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party with 4%.

Compared to last week's Gallup survey, candidate Yoon (37→41%) rose 4 percentage points, while candidate Lee (36→34%) fell 2 percentage points, widening the gap in approval ratings to 7 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error. Candidate Ahn fell 2 percentage points and candidate Sim rose 1 percentage point.

Candidate Lee Jae-myung scored relatively high in the evaluation of who will respond best in seven aspects, including "economy, social welfare, inter-Korean relations, real estate, COVID-19, climate change, environment, conflict resolution, and national harmony."

The economic sector was 43% for Lee, 27% for Yoon, 11% for Ahn, and 1% for Sim, while the social welfare sector was 31% for Lee, 22% for Yoon, 18% for Sim, and 11% for Ahn. The climate environment and change sector were 28% for Lee, 21% for Ahn, 17% for Yoon, and 8% for Sim.

Regarding the real estate issue, Yoon (33%) and Lee (32%) were similar, followed by Ahn (7%) and Sim (2%). Yoon (30%) and Lee (29%) were also tight in resolving conflicts and national harmony, with 15% for Ahn and 5% for Shim.

The inter-Korean relations were similar to candidate Lee (36%) and candidate Yoon (35%), followed by Ahn (5%) and Sim (1%).
