Vice Chairman Kim said, “The world’s energy is rapidly changing to carbon-free/low-carbon energy according to the trend of pursuing carbon neutrality in the face of the climate crisis.”

The Global Forum is an event held by SK Group to discover new growth engines for the future. SK innovation will hold a forum related to its business fields such as non-carbon/low-carbon energy, resource circulation, and next-generation batteries from June 11 to 12 to share discussions and insights with local industry-academia experts and share various opinions. The forum was attended by key executives from SK Innovation, including Vice Chairman Kim and SK On CEO Ji Dong-seop.

SK innovation has secured competitiveness as a business specialized subsidiary by successfully nurturing promising future businesses such as SK On (battery), SKIET (battery separator) and SK Earth On (resources development/CCS).

In the future, SK innovation plans to promote related projects through equity investment or technology/business cooperation with global leading and promising companies in each field, in addition to its own technologies in the fields of electrification and waste/material recycling.

Daejeon Environmental Science and Technology Institute's R&D capabilities and global network will be used to reinforce the 'global open innovation' system.

A representative example is that SK Innovation and SK Corporation signed a comprehensive business cooperation with Tera Power, a next-generation small module reactor (SMR) company in the U.S. last month.

TerraPower is an innovative company in the nuclear power plant industry founded in 2008 by Microsoft founder Bill Gates. SK Innovation has a strategy to expand such cases.

Vice Chairman Kim said, “In the electrification area, we are paying attention to various next-generation growth areas such as nuclear power (SMR), electric vehicle batteries and materials, and energy solutions to expand our eco-friendly portfolio. We will continue to discover new growth engines.”

Vice-Chairman Kim also serves as the environment business chairperson at the Supex Council, the highest consultative body for SK Group management.
