Busan University of Foreign Studies(BUFS) announced that it held an inauguration ceremony for the 11th President Jang Soon-Heung at the Mano Auditorium of the university on Oct. 13.
The inauguration ceremony started with a worship service, followed by the announcement of the appointment of the new president and transfer of school flag, introduction of biographies and inaugural speeches, congratulatory speeches, and reception.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key figures such as Mayor Park Hyung-joon of Busan Metropolitan City, President Chang Je-kuk of Dongseo University, and Alumni Association Advisor Lee Choong-gwon, as well as 300 members of Busan University of Foreign Studies. The inauguration of President Jang was carried out through video congratulatory speeches from key figures such as Chairman Kim Jang-hwan of Far East Broadcasting Corporation, Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo, and Rep. Baek Jong-heon.
After graduating from the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Seoul National University in 1976, the new president Jang received his master's and doctoral degrees in nuclear engineering from MIT in the United States. He was appointed as a professor at KAIST in 1982. Until January, he served as the 5th and 6th president of Handong Global University.
In his inaugural address, President Jang said, “I came to Busan University of Foreign Studies with a very heavy heart, a great sense of responsibility, and a sense of duty within the limits of being a local university facing a crisis. We will create a happy campus that nurtures convergence-type talents who can solve problems suitable for the global era.”
The term of office of President Jang of Busan University of Foreign Studies is from Oct. 1, 2022 to Sep. 30, 2026.
