Says columnist Kim Soon-duk in her Dong-A Ilbo column

“The Moon Jae Myung (former President Moon Jae-in and Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung) force has no right to say democracy,” said Kim Soon-duk in her column appeared on the vernacular daily Dong-A Ilbo on Jan. 5, 2023.

“To me, the proud Republic of Korea seems dissatisfied with the former Moon Jae-in regime. In particular, looking at the memorial service for the victims of the Jeju 4·3 incident in 2021, it is impossible to know the identity of former President Moon.

Moon said, "The state power at the time ruthlessly suppressed Jeju residents by putting the names of 'red (communist)', 'riot', and 'rebellion' on the grounds of opposing division in the dream of complete independence and drove them to death."

No matter how much the two sorts of history flow in Jeju and national violence deserves to be condemned, the essence of the 4·3 incident is the rebellion of the Namro Party. In the process, many good residents were innocent victims, she claimed.

Hyun Gil-eon, a Jeju-born novelist who suffered from the 4·3 incident, wrote in the "Distortion of Political Power and History" that "4·3 was a rebellion caused by the Namro Party (1948) with the aim of hindering the establishment of the Korean government."

Nevertheless, Moon Jae-in asserted, “It was the 4·3 incident of Jeju Island, which dreamed of a good country." Does his argument mean that Kim Il-sung's North Korea is a good country, and the Republic of Korea is not a completely independent country?

President Moon said on Jan. 2 with Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who visited Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-do, "We reached a consensus that democracy, which was hard to achieve, should never retreat." It's a curious thing.

In his 2019 Memorial Day speech, former President Moon said, "The Joseon Volunteer Corps, led by Yaksan Kim Won-bong, was incorporated into the Liberation Army and finally gathered the national independence movement capabilities." Regarding Kim Won-bong, who was even decorated for his contribution to the establishment of the North Korean regime, former President Moon said, "I want to give him the highest medal of independence merit in my heart."

On the other hand, in the information section of the website of the 6. 25 Korean War hero Baek Sun-yeop, who was buried at Daejeon Cemetery in July 2020, the phrase of pro-Japanese anti-national actor was specified under the Moon’s direction.

We dreamed of such a country, fought such a historical war, and had a president with such identity. In the constitutional amendment proposed by former President Moon in 2018, it is not understandable why he tried to exclude "freedom" from "liberal democracy" in children's textbooks.

Eleven months ago, Yoon Suk-yeol, the then presidential candidate, said, "People who were intoxicated by the outdated ideology of the social revolution 40 or 50 years ago continued to build a power of interest and shared all the interests of high-ranking officials in Korea." The "Moon Jae Myung force" dares to speak of democracy and is now holding back the Yoon Suk-yeol government, columnist Kim said.
