The minor People's Party on Friday cheered the Constitutional Court's decision to permanently remove Park Geun-hye from the presidential office, saying it is a victory by the people.
Rep. Park Jie-won, head of the People's Party, said the result came as an outcome of the civil revolution by the South Korean people.
"Along with the people, we would like to express respect to Chief Justice Lee Jung-mi and other justices for upholding the impeachment unanimously," the party leader said.
"The law and order is the pride of South Korea," Rep. Kim Kyung-jin, a spokesman of the People's Party, also said. "We respect the court's decision. Everyone should concede with the conclusion."
"We should put an end to the situation where politics becomes a problem for the people as seen in the latest influence-peddling scandal," Kim said. "Instead, politics should be the solution."
The People's Party said it will continue efforts to help the underprivileged in the country, while seeking peace on the Korean Peninsula.
The Constitutional Court upheld the impeachment of Park from her office on Friday, removing her from office after a 92-day leadership crisis. The former president was impeached by parliament on Dec. 9 on a corruption scandal surrounding her confidante Choi Soon-sil, who exerted influence on state affairs.
