In an era of another Great Leap Forward

By Vice Chairman Jang Chang-yong (senior editorial writer)

It is said that one must be borne with a good luck, and this seems to apply to all the people individually and also the country.

You don't have to be a fatalist to realize that all human affairs are largely determined by fate. Good luck doesn't just happen. You have to make a good deed to get a favorable response from the Heaven, which means nothing is free. The final outcome is determined by one in the divine realm. So, one must not hope for a good outcome without making due effort.

The Republic of Korea is greeting an Era of Another Great Leap Forward.

It is said that individuals and countries must be born with good luck.

Even if you are not a fatalist, you cannot deny that all human affairs are largely determined by fate.

Good luck does not just happen. The Heaven will only respond if you do good deeds, which means that there is nothing that is free. The final outcome is determined by the divine realm, so we shouldn't wish for a good outcome without being grateful.

When we look back at the 5.000 years of the Korean history, especially the last hundred years of our modern history, it has been turbulent. We have suffered more than any other country in history. However, the Korean people bounced back stood up like an Ottogi (a toy that tumbles but stands back on its own own).

And, at length, Korea is back on her own feet treading on the path of flowers to glory.

Now, under President Yoon Seok-yul, the Republic of Korea is moving on toward achieving another Great Leap Forward.

Here are a few examples:

a. It was a blessing from the Heaven that we had the founding head of government, President Syngman Rhee, and the ‘Economic Development President,’ Mr. Park Chung-hee. It was a blessing to have the late Chairman Lee Byung-chul of the Samsung Business Group and the late founding Chairman Chung Ju-young of the Hyundai Business Group, and also to have the world's highest IQ people.

Now, the Republic of Korea (south) is about to take another great leap forward from the top 10 economies of the world and OECD countries to join the ranks of the G8. Joining the G8 means entering the ranks of the central countries of the world.

b. A country in Africa with a population of 20 million and a GDP of US$650, has been attracting the world's attention by announcing her intention to put the symbols of Taegeuk (symbols of flag of the Republic of Korea) into a part of the flag of his own country to integrate the images of the two countries into one another as soon as she succeeds in doubling her GDP through trade and cooperation with Korea and also resolving the border dispute with her neighboring country.

This country in Africa have received the K-2 rifles exported by Korea. Since she was armed with these high-performance K-2 rifles, the country has succeeded in resolving the border dispute with her neighboring country by gaining military superiority, and has transformed from a food-short country to a food-exporting country through the development of agricultural and fisheries industries with support from South Korea.

In the future, the domino effects of South Korea's inclusion among neighboring countries are expected, and it is a shocking event that will be recorded in world history as a territorial expansion without spilling a drop of blood.

c. Another country, who is watching the war in Ukraine, a neighboring country, is importing Korean weapons on a large scale and is expected to import more weapons in the future. The weapons include K-9 self-propelled artillery, K-2 tanks, FA-50 light fighter jets, warship fighters, tank shells, and more.

Southeast Asian countries and many other countries of the world, including those in South America and other parts of the world, also favor Korean-made weapons. The arms industry is now emerging as an export item for Blue Ocean.

Until now, the global arms market has been a monopoly of developed countries such as the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, but a tectonic shift is expected with the emergence of Korean products. It is recognized as the best in terms of cost-effectiveness, such as good performance, low price, accurate delivery, and good after-sales services.

d. Saudi Arabia's participation in the construction of Neom City is also an expected market. Specific consultations are being held with President Yoon Suk-yeol's state visit and the good responses from these countries visited.

e. The reconstruction work in Ukraine, which will start soon after the war, is also a good target for win-win cooperation with Korea. Korea is an attractive country with experience in post-war reconstruction and excellent track record in overseas construction sites.

f. The Korean language and Hallyu culture, which are captivating young peoples in many countries around the world, are also becoming an accelerator for Korea's fortunes. There are many other opportunities.

The problem, however, is our own attitude. We are worried that the National Assembly, which fights day and night over ideological disputes, a group of gangsters, and a political arena where justice, equality and common sense have been abandoned in favor of use of force and sophistry. This situation is expected to squander the opportunity of rising national fortunes. It calls for the leadership's awakening.
