South Korea's permanent representative to the United Nations' Geneva office, Ambassador Choi Kyong-lim, was named chair of the World Trade Organization's Goods Council, according to the council on Saturday.

Ambassador Choi will serve as chair of the WTO's Council for Trade in Goods, which oversees subjects including agriculture, market access, anti-dumping measures and others, by February next year.

It was the second time that a South Korean ambassador took up the post.

In 2004, then-South Korean permanent representative to the U.N.'s Geneva office Ambassador Choi Hyuck was named chair of the WTO council.
