Pakistan conducts flaghoisting ceremony

To commemorate the Independence Day of Pakistan, Ambassador Shaukat Ali Mukadam of Pakistan hosted a flag-hoisting ceremony at the Embassy of Pakistan in Itaewon, Seoul on Aug. 14, 2013.

The ceremony was presided over by Ambassador. The event was widely attended by prominent members of the Pakistani community from different walks of live, officers and staff of the Embassy of Pakistan, prominent Korean nationals, residing in Korea.

The event commenced at 10 a.m. with the recitation of the Holy Quran. This was followed by the playing of the National Anthem, hoisting of the Pakistani flag, and offering of prayers for the prosperity and progress of Pakistan, as well as the well-being of the Pakistani community in South Korea.

During the event, Ambassador Mukadam read out the messages of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, in which the transition from one democratically elected government to another was highlighted.

The people were also urged to stand firm and united for safeguarding and strengthening democracy and to work collectively for a progressive, tolerant, moderate and pluralistic Pakistan as envisioned by our great leaders. Tributes were also paid to the valiant sons of the soil, who have sacrificed their lives defending the motherland from external and internal threats, as well as courage of all fellow citizens, who laid down their lives or suffered grievously fighting against militancy and extremism.

Ambassador Mukadam congratulated the community on the occasion of the Independency Day, and also gave an overview of the major policy initiatives of the new government aimed at resolving pressing problems faced at home. An overview was also given of the steps taken by the Embassy to resolve problems faced by the community in South Korea. The participants were thanked for attending this event. k
