International Carbon Festival also organized
JEC Group, the acknowledged leader in composite materials around the world, held a press conference at the Plaza Hotel in Seoul on July 12 to highlight the significance of composites.
During the JEC Asia News Conference, JEC Group Chairwoman and CEO Mrs. Frédérique Mutel briefed about the trends and opportunities of the global composite materials industry. She said whenever she comes to Seoul, she is surprised by the dynamics of the Korean market. She drew attention to the vitality of Korean economy driven by the “golden triangle” of the Korean government, industry and research institutions.
Mrs. Mutel said she wanted to share the results of analyses of the current and future trends of the global composite industry with Korea’s media, business, government officials and academics. “We want to identify and address the challenges and tasks facing the composites world,” she said.
JEC will host the JEC Asia International Composites Event in Seoul for November. 1, 2, and 3, 2017.The event, focusing on end-user markets, will be held in Seoul for the first time. JEC Asia will be organized together with the 12th International Carbon Festival, the one-day symposium with presentations by world-renowned speakers from the carbon industry.
Mrs. Mutel added:“As an observer and representative of the industry, we could not help but to notice that the development of composites materials could only be possible thanks to the close relationship of the Golden Triangle made up of Government, Industry and Research together with Material Sciences and Engineering. These models of virtuous circles have proven to be positive and fruitful in many countries and South Korea is a very good example.”
She went on: “After having signed a few years ago an MOU with the KCTECH, we are happy to sign another one today with the Jeonbuk Techno Park.” JEC’s goal for this year is to reap success in the JEC Asia International Composites Event, which will “showcase the most updated products, technologies and services in the market.”

The city of Seoul is already very committed to help us hosting this international event with attendees from more than 40 countries next November 1-3, 2017,” commented Christian Strassburger, JEC Asian Show Director.“Moreover, Seoul has the perfect infrastructure to welcome exhibitors and attendees with the high-quality standards that JEC Group offers at each of our event,” added Mr. Strassburger.
Attending the news conference, French Ambassador to Korea Fabien Penone also hoped that the Seoul show, due to be staged in COEX, will wind up in success.
Chung Dong-chul, director of Korea Institute of Carbon Convergence Technology (KCTECH), briefed about the status of carbon industry in North Jeolla Province and the International Carbon Festival.
Kim Ki-s00, president of the Korean Society for Composite Materials(KSCM), explained about the present and future of Korea’s composites industry. The society, founded in 1988, is a not-for-profit membership organization that has established itself as the primary society in Korea for providing a forum for researchers, educators, manufacturers, engineers and students in the fields of composite materials and structures.
Choi Chi-hoon, a researcher of Hyundai Motor R&D Center, presented a study report on the usage of composites in the automotive industry.
