The wigs factories of Pt. Sung Chang Indonesia currently hire as many as 17,000 people. “As long as people continue to live, the demand on wigs will expand,” said CEO Kim. “Global demand on wigs is on the rise.” He observed the Korean wigs market is also expanding with increasing demand on wigs for beauty.“I believe that wigs enhance the happiness index, as well as creating beauty,” he declared.

Currently, Pt. Sung Chang Indonesia is recognized as a global top-tier wigs company, beyond Indonesia. The company intends to add one factory every three years. Its goal is to export $100 million worth of wigs and hair extensions in 2018, while dedicated to developing new highest-quality wigs. With annual growth of 30% to40%, Sung Chang is recognized as the largest wigs and hair extensions firms around the globe.

Pt. Sung Chang Indonesia is located in six different factory complex in central Java province and Yogyakarta. The firm produces various types of wigs, including whole wigs, half wigs, hair pieces, extensions, and wigs for black and white people. The main factory was established in Kalimanah, Purbalingga(central Java) in 1995. The other seven factories are located inWates, Kulonprogo(Yogyakarta),Bobotsari, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara (central Java) and other areas.

As an import and export-oriented company, PT Sung Chang Indonesia exports its products to the United States, Canada, and France. Some 80% of raw materials are imported from Japan and South Korea while 20% is made in Indonesia.

Pt. Sung Chang Indonesia now hires about 30 Koreans. “Some people ask why so many Korean are hired? But, it is more important for us to come to terms with each other and grow together,” he emphasized. “It is true that foreign enterprises based in Indonesia tend to push for a “localization policy,” said CEO Kim.

He said, “The basics of business is to grow together and communicate with people,” he said. “Enterprises need to coexist peacefully with local communities.”CEO Kim also is actively engaged in volunteer works. In May this year, He donated $100,000 for construction of a smart library of Hankook University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, capital of Korea.He said that “I remain strong in the belief that we should work for advancement of our society in a quiet manner.”

In Indonesia, he contributes money for welfare of elderly people living alone and orphans. He offers scholarships for students from lower-income households and funds for repairs of employee houses. He also extends financial support to regional cultural events. Of late, he donated 300 million Rupiah for slum renewals projects.

He has visited virtually every employee’s home for two years after establishing the first factory. Even now, he presents birthday cakes to his employees.

Touching his company’s operations, CEO Kim said he was able to calm down a labor dispute thanks to his good relationships with his employees. “The labor dispute was handled peacefully, as I have endeavored to improve the welfare of his employees and to have good relationships with them,” he said. Now, he holds consultative meetings with union leaders every month.

CEO Kim is now 65 years old. He wants to retire about 10 years later. His eldest son
will replace him as CEO.“ Until then, I will work harder for the development of Pt. Sung Chang Indonesia and enhancement of the national interests of the Republic of Korea,” CEO Kim emphasized.
He said he would not receive financial support from his offspring after retiring. “I am ready to lead a simple life” with rental income from his two buildings in Seoul.
