A heat wave has killed more than 2.67 million chickens and ducks across South Korea since July, an insurance company said Saturday.

Temperatures hovered above 33 degrees Celsius for 24 days across the country in the summer. The mercury hit this year's record high of 39.6 degrees Celsius in Yeongcheon, about 340 kilometers southeast of Seoul, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.

The scorching temperatures are also to blame for the deaths of more than 10,300 pigs, according to NongHyup Property & Casualty Insurance Co. (Yonhap)
