Professor Victor Cha of Georgetown University in the United States, 56, has been named next US ambassador to the Republic of Korea (south). This was reported by Reuters yesterday.
Quoting a US government official, Reuters reported that the Trump Administration of the US plans to appoint Prof. Cha as new US envoy to South Korea and that announcement of his appointment will be made soon.
Prof. Cha once held the post of the head of a bureau in charge of Asian Affairs at the National Security Council at the White House, and is currently working as a professor at the Center for Strategic & International Studies. Reuters said that Cha was tapped as a result of prolonged discussions at a time when President Trump’s foreign policies on North Korea have met with serious challenges due to repeated provocations by the North Korean regime.
