Costa Rica, China to co-chair Working Group for 2 more years

Ambassador Christián Guillermet Fernández, Director General of Foreign Policy at Costa Rica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, along with representatives of the Embassy of Costa Rica in Korea, participated in the 2017 FEALAC´s Working Group Meetings and Senior Officials' Meeting held in Busan on Aug. 29-30, 2017.
During these meetings, senior-level officials of the 36 FEALAC member countries concluded negotiations regarding the New FEALAC Action Plan, FEALAC Fund and Busan Declaration, pursuant to the agreements of the 7th FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in San Jose, Costa Rica in August 2015.

Costa Rica and China co-chaired the sessions of the Socio-Political Cooperation and Sustainable Development Working Group (WG), during which the status of regional and national projects (34) initiated during the last two years, was reviewed. Costa Rica and China were re-elected by consensus by the 36 FEALAC member countries to co-chair this WG during the next two years.
During the SOM, Costa Rica actively contributed to the successful negotiations for the conclusion of the new FELAC action plan and consolidate partnerships with international financial institutions ( ECLAC, ESCAP) to scale up the new FEALAC fund.
Costa Rica commended the hosts for their efforts in organizing this multilateral meeting and for satisfactorily following-up on the initiatives agreed during the 7th FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Costa Rica.
