Myanmar has expelled a North Korean diplomat reportedly belonging to a company subject to U.N. Security Council sanctions, according to its sanctions report.
"The Government took necessary action against Mr. Kim Chol Nam, a national of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) working as a Second Secretary at the Embassy of the DPRK," said the report posted on the website for the UNSC's committee on North Korea sanctions.
DPRK is the abbreviation of North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The report said that Kim "reportedly belonged to the Korea Mining Development Trading Corporation (KOMID), against which sanctions have been imposed by the United Nations Security Council."
It added that the North Korean embassy was notified to send him back home in April and that Kim and his family left Myanmar in June.
KOMID is a North Korean company believed to be a channel of Pyongyang's exports of weapons and equipment related to ballistic missiles. It was placed on a UNSC blacklist in 2009.
Myanmar is known for its close relations with North Korea. It marked the first time that the country has submitted an implementation report on sanctions imposed on the North.
"Myanmar is fully committed to the implementation of Security Council resolutions," the report said.
