Hanwha Chemical Corp., a major chemicals firm, said Friday that its third-quarter earnings soared 25 percent from a year earlier on widened margins and gains from equity ties with affiliates.

Net profit reached a record 252 billion won (US$226 million) in the July-September period, compared with a profit of 202 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Operating income also advanced 5.18 percent on-year to reach 215 billion won, while sales edged down 3.04 percent to 2.3 trillion won over the cited period, it said.

In the first nine months of the year, its net profit reached 1.03 trillion won.
