The head of Asiana IDT Inc., the information and communication technology unit of Kumho Asiana Group, has been named the new president of Asiana Airlines Inc., company officials said Friday.
Han Chang-soo will lead South Korea's second-biggest full-service carrier. The appointment came a day after Kim Soo-cheon offered to quit the top post at Asiana Airlines by taking responsibility for a recent in-flight meal fiasco.
In July, the carrier suffered massive in-flight meal service disruptions due to a fire at the factory of Asiana's new caterer, forcing some flights on international routes to take off without meals onboard.
Kumho Asiana Group Chairman Park Sam-koo has apologized for the "no-meal fiasco."
Also on Friday, the conglomerate's chief named his eldest son, Park Se-chang, as new president of Asiana IDT. (Yonhap)
