On the occasion of the anniversary of the National Day for the accession of H.M. Sheikh Jassin bin Mohamed bin Thani, the founder of the State of Qatar, to the rule of the country, Ambassador Mohamed Abdulla Al Dahaimi of the State of Qatar in Seoul and Mrs. Majd Mohammed Al Moadhadi hosted a recepton at the Shilla Hotel on Dec. 15, 2014.

The reception was also in celebration of the 40th anniversary of estalblishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Qatar.

Attending the reception from the Korean society were Minister of Health and Welfare Moon Hyung-pyo and representatives from the business, culturaland media organizations.

From the Diplomatic Corps of Korea came many mission chierfs and other senior diplomats who included Ambassadors Hocine Sahraoui of Algeria, Jorge Roballo of Argentina, Ramzi Teymurov of Azerbaijan, Natallia Jhylevich of Belarus, Dato Haji Harun Ismail of Brunei Darussalam, Sylvestre Kouassi Bile of Cote d'Ivoire, Carlos Victor Boungou of Gabon, Nikoloz Apkhazava of Georgia, Hassan Taherian of Iran, Khalil Ismai Abdul Sahib Al-Mosawi of Iraq, Omar AL NAHAR of Jordan, Gathoga W. Chege of Kenya (CDA), Dlias Nicolas of Lebanon (CDA), Otman S. Saad Ahbara of Libya, Mohammed Chraibi of Morocco, Kaman Singh Lama of Nepal, Mohamed Salim Alharthy of Oman, Zahid Nasrulah Khan of Pakistan, Ahmad Y. Al-Barrak of Saudi Arabia, Mamadou Ndiaye of Senegal, Tissa Wijeratne of Sri Lanka, Mohamad Abdelaal of Sudan, Mohamed Ali Nafti of Tunisia, Abdulla Khalfan Alromaithi of the United Arab Emirates and Bakhtier N. Ibragimov of Uzbekistan (CDA).

There was no presentation of National Anthems or speeches from the host or guests, but a maximum extent of pleasant and comfortable atmosphere for the guests. The guests obviously enjoyed the absence of formalities as well as the nice food and beverage and the company.

As in the case of some Arabic countries, there was a traditional Arabic tent pitched at one corner of the ballroom where Ambassador Mohamed Abdulla Al Dahaimi of Qatar accommodated the Korean and foreign important guests.

There also were a number of photographs of Qatar on display which introduced the beautiful tourist attractions of the country. There also was a poster showing Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 FITA World Cup Football.

Lately, Korea and Qatar are increasing their cooperation in the economic and various other ways obviously with a strong interest on the part of the leaders of the two countires.

President Park Geun-hye held summit talks with Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the emir of Qatar, on Nov. 5, 2014 during his state visit to Korea and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The emir said, "The relationship between our two countries is developing across various sectors, not just energy but also public health, military affairs, telecommunications and more."

He also mentioned that, "Qatar has set a national vision for 2030 and based on that grand view many businesses and projects are being started." He expressed his wishes that, "Until today, many Korean enterprises have contributed to Qatar`s development and prosperity. I hope this visit can serve as a great turning point in enhancing relations between our two nations."

Both leaders agreed to cooperate on involving Korean companies in the railway, road and stadium construction projects worth some USD 44 billion in preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2022 to be held in Qatar.

President Park asked the emir for a smooth supply of energy and active participation in the Northeast Asia oil hub project. Korea and Qatar also agreed to continue their energy cooperation.

During the summit, both governments signed MOUs to increase cooperation on public health, technology innovation, telecommunications technology and on financial cooperation between the two central banks.
