South Korean washing machines exports to the United States have filled the annual quota of 1.2 million units, subjecting future shipments to 50 percent tariffs until February next year, data showed on Oct. 17, 2018.
The tariff rate quota was reached as of Oct. 1, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The U.S. has placed safeguards on imported washing machines since Feb. 7, levying 20 percent tariffs on 1.2 million units and 50 percent on all units exceeding that number in the case of South Korea. The quota will be counted anew in February next year.
Exports of washing machine components reached their annual quota of 50,000 on July 23.
Steel exports, also subject to a quota, have 920,199 tons left, according to the data. (Yonhap)
