Mobile edge computing is a concept in which services are provided to users at the "edge" of the network by installing data centers near clients.

SK Telecom said the concept, which involves installing small 5G data centers, is significant as it can reduce delay and offer faster speeds to users.

Mobile edge computing can lend support to emerging industries, including self-driving automobiles, robots, drones, high-performance cloud services and virtual reality services, SK Telecom said.

The two companies will partner in studying core technologies related to mobile edge computing, as well as in expanding the ecosystem of the field and finding new business opportunities, SK Telecom said. (Yonhap)
