South Korea expressed words of consolation Monday to the people and government of Sri Lanka over the deadly Easter Sunday bombings that claimed over 200 lives in the South Asian country.

"We offer our condolences and consolation to those who were killed in the April 21 explosions and their families, also the people and the government of Sri Lanka," Seoul's foreign ministry said in a statement.

South Korea denounces the attacks that targeted innocent civilians as an inhumane act and remains firmly committed to eradicating terrorism in line with efforts by the international community, the ministry added.

Nine bombings by suspected religious extremists rocked major establishments in and around Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital, on Easter Sunday, killing at least 200 and injuring hundreds of others.
