The 59th National Assembly’s “Africa New Era Forum” & Korea-Africa Congress Forum was held in National Assembly meeting room on July 3, 2019.

Under the main theme of “The Rising Continent, Africa is Calling”, the forum was initiated on September 13, 2013, having Lee Ju-young, Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, as the chairman.

Former U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon attended the forum giving a speech on Africa’s development and South Korea’s role having 18 African ambassadors to South Korea on-scene.

He pointed out that major problems related to poverty, disease, gender equality etc. are weighted in the African continent far greater than any of the OECD member states adding the importance of education as a resolution.

The forum was attended by more than 70 participants including politicians, companies and institutions engaged in the development of Africa.
