The event was attended by a number of diplomatic figures, providing a platform to further strengthen the ties of cooperation and friendship between the two nations.
In his welcoming remarks, Saeed Koozechi, Ambassador of Iran to South Korea, emphasized that despite the early challenges faced by the Iranian revolution, the Islamic Republic of Iran has continued to make significant strides in various fields. "Iran is home to over 10,000 knowledge-based enterprises, and its global ranking in scientific and technological publications has steadily improved," the Ambassador stated, highlighting Iran’s economic growth. He also outlined the key foreign policy goals of the Iranian government, which include "securing national interests, maintaining national security, and expanding economic diplomacy."
Ambassador Koozechi further noted, "Iran is enhancing multilateral exchanges with regional and international organizations, such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), and the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation." He emphasized that Iran's vision is to establish balanced political, economic, and cultural relations with all countries.
In his speech, Chung Kee-yong, South Korea’s Deputy Minister for Climate Change, quoted the famous Persian poet Saadi: “True friendship is holding the hand of a friend in both joy and sorrow.” He used this quote to underscore the depth of the relationship between Korea and Iran. Deputy Minister Chung referred to the long-standing bilateral ties between the two nations, established since 1962, and highlighted that "Iran and Korea have developed mutual respect and trust over the years, and this cooperation has provided tangible benefits to both countries." He also pointed out that "Korea has played a significant role in Iran's industrial and technological development, and cooperation in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors has been thriving."
Deputy Minister Chung also expressed hope for the resumption of the Korea-Iran Junior Diplomat Exchange Program, stating, "These exchanges will serve as an important experience in opening a new chapter in the Korea-Iran relationship."
As the country’s Climate Change Ambassador, Deputy Minister Chung emphasized the importance of addressing climate change and environmental protection. "Korea has taken a leading role in international environmental governance, including the establishment of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), and Iran has shown a strong commitment to sustainable environmental practices," he remarked, highlighting the potential for further cooperation between the two countries in tackling climate-related challenges.
