Cheonan showcases smart city vision at SCEWC 2025 in Barcelona
City teams up with local tech firms and universities to expand global partnerships and explore overseas market entry
Cheonan City has stepped onto the global stage of smart city innovation, unveiling its future-focused urban development strategy at the 2025 Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona, Spain.
The city announced on the 5th that it opened its first independent promotional pavilion, the “Cheonan Pavilion,” at this year’s SCEWC, held from November 4 to 6 (local time). The annual expo, hosted by the Barcelona City Council, is recognized as the world’s largest smart city exhibition, drawing more than 25,000 participants from over 130 countries.
By operating its own pavilion for the first time, Cheonan aims to expand global cooperation networks and establish a bridgehead for overseas business and technology exchange. The pavilion introduces smart urban services currently being applied or planned in Cheonan, designed to allow visitors to visually and intuitively experience the city’s innovative urban ecosystem.
Eight regional companies specializing in artificial intelligence, data platforms, and smart technology participated as partners, alongside Cheonan Institute of Science & Technology Promotion, Dankook University, and Korea University of Technology and Education. The joint presence demonstrates Cheonan’s aim to build a city-industry-academia collaboration model for future innovation.
The city also dispatched university student global supporters to assist with translation, promotion, and on-site technical interpretation, providing students with practical international exhibition experience and enhancing Cheonan’s global communication capacity.
Acting Mayor Kim Seok-pil stated, “Through our participation in SCEWC 2025, we confirmed that Cheonan’s technologies and companies are competitive on the global stage.
We will continue to strengthen Cheonan’s identity as a smart city where innovation and talent grow together.”
