Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) is moving to deepen cooperation with the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) in next-generation nuclear and emerging technologies, following the Korea–UAE summit.

On November 18, KEPCO and ENEC signed a “Partnership MOU on Nuclear Innovation, AI, and Global Market Cooperation” at the UAE Presidential Palace, in the presence of both nations’ leaders.

Under the agreement, the two sides will expand collaboration in small modular reactor (SMR) assessments, applications of AI technology in nuclear operations, information exchange on next-generation reactor technologies, workforce training, and joint research. The partnership aims to accelerate cooperation in future-oriented nuclear businesses while strengthening the two countries’ competitiveness in the global nuclear market.

The MOU carries particular significance as it builds on the successful partnership established through the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant project. KEPCO and ENEC expect the strengthened ties to generate new business opportunities and enhance their collective competitiveness in nuclear exports through joint entry into global markets.

On November 19, KEPCO CEO Kim Dong-cheol held a separate meeting with ENEC CEO Mohamed Al Hammadi to discuss concrete strategies for jointly expanding their presence in the international nuclear market.

“Now is the time for both companies to focus fully on expanding our global partnership,” Kim said, reiterating KEPCO’s strong commitment to pursuing joint nuclear projects in third countries. He added that the trust and achievements built through years of cooperation would serve as a powerful foundation for future collaboration.

Al Hammadi responded, noting that “the global nuclear industry is entering a new phase, and exploring joint opportunities will generate significant value through the KEPCO–ENEC partnership.”
