Newly accredited Ambassador Peteris Vaivars of the Republic of Latvia in Seoul presented his credentials to President Park Geun-hye in an official ceremony held at the Presidential Mansion of Cheong Wa Dae held on Jan. 15, 2016.
The new Latvian ambassador thanked Korea for her special understanding and support during the time of the opening of the Embassy of Latvia in Seoul in 2015.

Ambassador Vaivars said that he was confident that the Embassy will work actively on the strengthening of bilateral relations, especially in the promotion of business, tourism and contacts between experts in education, science and other fields. Ambassador Vaivars also expressed his gratitude for Korea’s support in the ongoing process of Latvia’s accession to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
During the discussion at their meeting, President Park expressed her pleasure at the opening of the Embassy of Latvia as a historic new chapter in the bilateral relationship between Latvia and Korea. Park expressed her wishes for increased bilateral economic and business contacts and in promoting the flow of investment. She also called for the completion of negotiations on the drafting of the Air Services Agreement and for its signing in the near future.
President Park said that she was happy to see traditional Latvian costumes worn by the diplomats for the accreditation ceremony.
The Embassy of Latvia commenced work in Seoul on Sept.15, 2015. Its mission is to promote the political and economic dialogue between the two countries by providing special support for Latvian businessmen and cooperating with potential Korean investors and facilitating entry into markets in Asia.
