SK Telecom has developed the world's first next-generation cloud core network with Samsung Electronics, SK Telecom said on Nov. 22.

An official of SK Telecom explained, “Cloud core network is a key infrastructure for mobile communication that provides terminal authentication, customer service, and QoS management for Internet connection of data traffic of mobile devices such as smartphones. It is the world's first case to meet the international standard Rel.16.”

He said, “Through the development of the next-generation cloud core network, users can use Internet services at a faster pace, and companies can quickly develop and provide customized products and services that customers require, which is expected to greatly contribute to the development of the 5G industry in the future.”

Park Jong-kwan, head of SK Telecom's 5G technology group, said, "The world's first SCP-based cloud native-type core network that was developed this time will advance the spread of products and services related to 5G further," said Park Jong-kwan, head of SK Telecom's 5G technology group.” 

Park added, "We will continue to introduce various next-generation network innovation technologies through close cooperation with Samsung Electronics to enhance the status of South Korea's 5G technology."

Meanwhile, Noh Won-il, executive director of the product strategy team at Samsung Electronics' network business division, said, "The endless 5G service cases that we will experience in the future will be realized in earnest based on flexible and stable core networks and network structures based on cloud-native," said Noh Won-il, executive director of the product strategy team at Samsung Electronics' network business division. 

Noh added, "We will do our best to realize future technologies as soon as possible through preemptive technology development with SK Telecom."
