Woori Bank has been honored as the "Global Bank of the Year" by The Banker, a global financial magazine, for the first time in the nation’s banking industry.

The Banker also presented three awards, including the Best Asian Bank and the Best Korean Bank, to Woori Bank, the commercial bank said on Dec. 3.

The Banker is a monthly financial magazine of the British Financial Times that annually selects one best bank by global, regional and country through a rigorous screening process.

It was reported that The Banker praised the timely financial support and various social contribution activities of Woori Bank to overcome COVID-19 this year, and the strengthening of the digital sector through partnerships with heterogeneous industries in preparation for post-COVID-19.

A Woori Bank official said, "Although we have been selected as the best bank in Korea for three consecutive years from 2016 to 2018, it is the first time for a domestic bank to be selected as the global best bank. This year's award has a special meaning of COVID-19 response, so we will take the lead in implementing 'solid finance' together."
