Hyundai Motor unveiled its first exclusive electric vehicle brand “Ioniq 5” on Feb. 23 and will begin pre-contracts from Feb. 25.

Hyundai Motor Co. hosted the Ioniq 5 World's First Reveal event online. The car name is "Ioniq," a combination of Ion, which generates energy with electrical power, and Unique, which means Hyundai's originality, and the number "5," which represents the car level.

The Ioniq 5 can run up to 430km on a single charge, and the sales price is set at between early and mid 50 million won depending on the long-distance model.

Hyundai Motor Group applied E-GMP, a platform exclusively for electric vehicles, for the first time and maximized the value of dedicated electric vehicles by reflecting "Style Set Free," which allows consumers to configure interior parts, hardware devices, and product contents.

The Ioniq 5 supports both 400-volt and 800-volt charging. In fact, Hyundai’s E-GMP platform offers 800V charging as standard, along with 400V charging, without the need for additional adapters.

Hyundai said this multi-charging system is a “world’s first patented technology that operates the motor and inverter to boost 400 V to 800 V for stable charging compatibility.”
