Indian Cultural Centre and Embassy of India, Seoul is organising the curtain raiser event of the ‘Festival of Independence’ on March 19, marking the beginning of the 75 weeks celebrations on the occasion of 75th Independence day of India which will be completed on 15th August 2022.

India attained independence after a lengthy period of British colonial rule on August 15, 1947. It is a happy coincidence that India shares its Independence Day, August 15, with the people of the Republic of Korea. To commemorate this occasion, Government of India has announced to mark this milestone in our journey as a nation with 75 weeks of India@75 celebrations worldwide.

To mark this historic achievement and invocation of the ‘Festival of Independence’, a ‘Freedom March’ was flagged off by the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi on 12th March from Sabarmati, Gujarat (India). This date of March 12 is memorable, as this is the date of Mahatma Gandhi's visit to Dandi for Salt Satyagraha. The march which started from 12th will continue till April 5. It is believed that by the time we complete 75 weeks, this festival will assume the form of a mass movement by the support and participation of the general public.

Indian Cultural Centre and Embassy of India, Seoul has planned to organise several events for the next 75 weeks in different cities and provinces across Republic of Korea in Online and Offline mode (subject to restrictions on social gathering and travel advisory).

These will include: - Special Lectures / Symposiums/ Panel Discussion/ Film Screening. Workshops on Yoga/ Meditation/ Ayurveda/ Buddhism/ Cuisine/ Indian and Korean Traditional Dance forms and Music.
