To build a terminal that can accommodate 5.7 million people a year in Chinchero

Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) has won the main construction project of Peru's Chinchero New International Airport Passenger Terminal, the builder said on July 28.

It is the second order following the construction of the site development in Peru.

The construction project of the main building of Peru's Chinchero New International Airport Passenger Terminal is worth about 493 billion won ($428 million) and was ordered by Peru's Ministry of Transportation and Communication.

Hyundai E&C participated as a consortium leader composed of global companies such as Mexico and China as a follow-up to the construction of the site development project, which was won earlier this year.

The project is to create an airport that can accommodate 5.7 million people a year in the city of Chinchero, 15 kilometers northwest of the existing Cusco, to travel to Machu Picchu, a world-renowned Inca cultural site.

The airport will be constructed as a state-of-the-art eco-friendly facility, including terminal building, control tower, runways and moorings.

The construction period is 47 months (63 months including repair of defects) and the design and construction process will be carried out at the same time.

"In recognition of our construction technology and know-how, we beat European competitors to win the order from Peru," a Hyundai E&C official said.
