Secures the top position in the Google Play cartoon category
Naver Webtoon ranked first in sales and downloads in the Google Play cartoon category in France, respectively, according to App Annie, a global app research company, on Sept. 10.
Naver Webtoon launched a French service in December 2019 and entered the European market in earnest.
Since then, it has switched to paid services in November last year, and has proven its competitiveness by maintaining its No. 1 position in the cartoon category of Google Play in France for more than 200 days since the transition to paid services.
It ranked 12th in the Apple App Store entertainment category in France and is competing with global OTT platforms such as Netflix and Disney Plus.
Tappytoon of Contents First, invested by Naver Webtoon, is also active, ranking second in sales in the Google Play cartoon category in France.
Tappytoon is a global Webtoon platform that currently serves 5 million people in about 190 countries, and Naver Webtoon acquired a 25% stake in Content Firsts in March to form a business partnership and secure content.
“France is an important market in building a global webtoon ecosystem, boasting the largest cartoon market in Europe after Germany,” said Kim Sol, head of Naver Webtoon France Service. "We will continue to introduce competitive content through thorough localization strategies and actively expand the European market."
