SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Yonhap) -- Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, who has been cited as one of the potential candidates for the next presidential election, decided to withdraw his candidacy, sources said Thursday.
Park is expected to deliver an announcement on his decision later in the day.
The Seoul mayor, a member of the Democratic Party, was a potential candidate in the liberal bloc, but his popularity has been falling recently. Moon Jae-in, former head of the main opposition, currently leads the opinion polls, while Seongnam Mayor Lee Jae-myun from the same party also boasts higher approval ratings compared to Park.
