On Wednesday, March 16th, the ambassador of Peru in Korea, Daúl Matute Mejía imposed the decoration of the Peruvian Navy, "Cruz Peruana al Mérito Naval” (Peruvian Cross of Naval Merit), in the degree of Grand Cross, granted by the President of the Republic and Minister of Defense, to Admiral Boo Suk-jong, former Chief of Naval Operations of the Korean Navy, for his contribution to strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries in the field of defense.

During the ceremony, the Ambassador of Peru highlighted the high level of the bilateral relationship between Peru and Korea, especially in the naval field, which has materialized with the recent arrival to Peru of the Second Naval Unit transferred by the Korean Navy to the Peruvian Navy: “BAP "Guisse”. He also mentioned the deep maritime tradition of the two countries reflected in the figures of Admiral Yi Sun-jin and Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario, heroes of both nations.

Admiral Boo Suk-jong thanked the decoration awarded by the Government of Peru and remarked the character of Peru's strategic partner with Korea in the field of defense. He highlighted not only the transfer of the "Suncheon" Naval Unit, which served under his command, but also the graduation of the first Peruvian naval officer, Second Lieutenant Jorge Mori, who entered the Naval Academy when the Admiral was its Superintendent.
